Engineered systems, inside every Edge Modular unit.
Every Edge Modular unit ships as a turnkey, factory-tested system. Power, cooling, fire protection, physical security, structured cabling, environmental monitoring, all designed together, all integrated, all commissioned before the unit leaves Auckland.
Core Systems Engineering
Resilient. Modular. Scalable. Efficient
Critical Power
EDGE Modular ships with an integrated power chain designed for low-operator demand. Rack mounted UPS units provide conditioned power and ride-through, customers can specify lithium-ion or lead-acid battery technology depending on duty cycle, ambient temperature and lifecycle preference. Custom distribution panels are built to specific load profile of the deployed equipment and an optional standby generator with on-board fuel storage provides extended run time when grid power is interrupted or unavailable. Dual redundancy, concurrently maintainable, fault tolerant.

Optional hybrid off-grid power
For sites where reliable mains power cannot be assumed - remote outposts, disaster-affected areas, training and exercise locations, off-grid industrial sites. EDGE Modular can be configured with a hybrid energy package. Solar PV, battery storage, inverter, and generator are integrated into the units power architecture and managed as a single unified system, with the generator only running when solar and battery cannot meet the load. The result is genuine off-grid capability with reduced fuel consumption, lower acoustic and thermal load when running on renewables and longer endurance between refuel or resupply.

Thermal management
Cooling is selected to match the workload and the environment in which the unit is deployed to. EDGE Modular supports room-level, row-level and rack-level precision cooling, with hot-aisle containment available where rack densities justify it. The container envelope is fuly insulated and fire rated to manage solar gain in tropical and high-ambient environments and to retain conditioned air efficiency in colder climates. The cooling architecture is sized for the deployed compute load, not over provisioned to a generic worst-case. This keeps PUE down and operating costs predictable. We design our cooling systems to either N+1, 2N or higher to maintain uptime. Where internal real estate is a premium, cooling systems can also be fitted to the external facade of the container onsite.

Physical Security and Fire suppression systems
Security is designed from the structural shell outward. Controlled access entry, intrusion detection systems, CCTV and environmental control systems are standard. Fire detection and suppresion are integrated with the management system so events are detected, contained and reported without requiring on-site staff. Customers operating higher threat environments can specify enhanced security construction such as SCIF secure compartmetns and access control as part of the build specification

Entry Points and Ingress Protection
Data, power and services are connected to the container using engineered connection systems, specific to your design. Through the preliminary design process, we will orientate your EDGE Modular container specific to your site, and then position where the services will enter the container. These can enter the container from overhead, underneath or via side entry. Depending on the level of flexibility required, our containers can be made using simple aluminium gland plates, Roxtec glands or MCT style glanding system, ensuring both water tightness as well as maintaining your fire rating and boundary.
Not sure where your services will be positioned? Not a problem, we can easily add additional penetrations in multiple locations to give you complete flexibility and opportunity for future growth. Our glanding systems and internal support systems also enable for full cable seperation, to ensure data security for EMI/EMC standards, along with the necessary shielding and physical barriers you may need for EMSEC.

Dedicated Secure Outdoor Equipment Alcove
Integrating both sensitive indoor equipment such as IT equipment, communications gear alongside outdoor rated equipment can be challenging. This is why EDGE have developed a unique feature - the 'integrated outdoor alcove'. Set in approximately 600mm from the end doors, we build a full internal bulkhead which is welded insitu to provide a watertight seal. Next the double doors are modified to have full heigh security mesh that is welded in place, creating a high-volume airflow chamber. This makes the compartment open to the outside environment, and able to reject heat from the controlled internal IT environment without compromising the containers ISO footprint. The floor is then modified to have a 10 degree slope, which ensures any moisture or rain can safely drain out of the container thorugh our integrated drains. All of this means that outdoor equiment such as HVAC can be installed all in one integrated system, and all behind our robust security mesh to deliver a tamper-free contained soltuion.

EDGE Modular FIX™ System
Installing and safely securing internal hardware such as IT racks, cabinets and distribution boards can be challenging. In other designs, the structural fixing of internal hardware is normally achieved through the installation of mechanical plates and strong backs on top of the internal lining system. This results in a loss of valuable internal real estate. Our unique design achieves a compeltely flush-mounted structural member, that sits in line with internal walls, floors and ceilings. The Edge Modular Fix system locks internal equipment to the container shell without compromising the ISO envelope or the seismic restraint. This enables IT racks and equipment to be installed quickly and without the need to penetrate the container watertight envelope. Future changes are also made easy - simply unbolt the hardware, move the equipment and retighten in your desired location - simple!

Another benefit of our FIX system is the ability to comply with challenging shock, vibration and earthquake zoning. We achieve this through the use of structural bracing in multiple planes, using the FIX system as an approved method to delivers flexibility and speed of build.
